FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?
I primarily work with parents and caregivers of children with medical, developmental, or complex needs. I also consult with practitioners, educators, and organizations who want to better support the families they serve. I can help families navigate the educational system, ensuring children receive the appropriate services and accommodations they need.
Most families don’t realize there are medical and financial support options, as well as social services, that may be available based on their child’s disability. I help them navigate their options.
What kinds of things can we work on together?
A few examples include:
-
Reviewing IEPs or 504 plans and identifying next steps
-
Provide support in obtaining educational or social services for your child
-
Preparing for school meetings or navigating conflicts with districts
-
Completing applications for and navigating the benefits of developmental disability services
-
Understanding eligibility for programs or supports
-
Reviewing high school transcripts and planning for graduation
-
Creating long-term plans for your child’s care and education
-
Talking through emotional or logistical overwhelm
Do you attend IEP or school meetings with families?
My model is to empower families to feel like they know how to navigate support without me.
I provide education, emotional support and guidance and walk families step by step through each challenge they are facing.
Most of the time, I do not attend meetings with you. In some cases where extra support is needed, I will attend. I do help you prepare ahead of time so that you know exactly what to expect and what will happen at the meeting.
This looks like making sure you understand your rights and options, as well as helping you clarify what (and how) to ask for what your child needs.
You’ll go into those meetings more confident and equipped to get the support you need for your child.
Can we work together if I’m outside your local area?
Yes! Most of my work is done virtually, so I can support families and practitioners across the U.S. with IEP or 504 support.
For local services, access, and eligibility, which vary by state, I only work in Oregon.
Do you offer ongoing support or one-time sessions?
Both! Some families just need a one-time consultation to get clarity and direction. Others prefer ongoing support through longer-term consulting. We’ll figure out together what’s best for your situation.
How is this different from hiring a legal advocate or lawyer?
I’m not a legal advocate or attorney. I bring my background as a school counselor, educator, and parent to offer strategy, insight, and emotional support.
If legal advocacy is needed, I can help you identify what kind of professional might be the right fit next.
Can you help me, even if I don’t know exactly what I need?
Absolutely. Many people come to me feeling overwhelmed or unsure of the next step.
Part of my job is helping you figure out where you are, what matters most right now, and how to move forward in a way that feels doable for your family.
If I want to learn more, what is the next step, and what does your process look like?
The next step is to complete my intake form to set up an initial consultation to discuss your child's needs, your concerns, and how I can support with you.
